FLORIDA CONDOMINIUMS

FREELANCE PROJECT
DURATION: 6 WEEKS
SUMMER 2016
LOCATION: FLAGLER BEACH, FLORIDA

ASSIGNMENT

Flagler Beach is a quaint and quiet beach town that caters to budget conscious young families and retired couples as a casual vacation destination. The assignment was to develop a concept for a vacation rental condominium located one block from the beach. Additional parameters included twelve units on three floors, a specific location, and compliance with local zoning and architectural standards.

INSPIRATIONAL GOAL

To inspire people to leave their troubles behind and embrace the carefree timelessness of a laid back, beach town lifestyle.

CONCEPT

The city of Flagler Beach requires developers to adhere to designs that preserve Florida’s historic heritage. To meet this objective, the concept of a Key West style was selected. The Key West design will facilitate the experience of the sight, sound, and scents of the Florida beaches and the casual beach lifestyle.

DESIGN SOLUTION
  • Custom railing designs offers a more modern architectural interest to give the property an upscale and luxurious feeling
  • The contrast of the white railings against the colorful pastels infuse a sense of airiness and refreshing cleanliness to offer an invigorating experience
  • Pastel shades of nature were used for the building façade to create a relaxed and calming environment
  • Local palms and plants were integrated in the landscape to create a connection with the natural habitat
  • A custom tile mosaic was placed on the East side of the building to further connect the bonds of man with nature through art
  • The large sliding glass doors and sizable balconies extend the living space outdoors
  • Staggering facades were used to enhance the view of the ocean from each unit
  • Standard units were designed for budget conscious travelers while penthouse units were designed for a more luxurious experience
